- SVB Financial Group saw a drop in its shares by 45%. The company has deeper issues on its balance sheet, with a portfolio of held-to-maturity mortgages with estimated losses of $16 billion. If the company recognises these losses, it would leave SVB Financial Group insolvent, which could cause a run on deposits.
- Aircap Holdings is doing a secondary offering, upsized to 23 million shares, on which the company will not receive any proceeds. The purchasing of $500 million worth of stock will reduce the number of shares outstanding and sets a floor for the shares.
- Investments in utility companies such as XL Energy offer investors a guaranteed return on equity, including for capital improvement projects. Negotiations between utility companies and regulators regarding rate increases work based on evidence, such as production of paper and mediations based on that evidence.
- Excel has over a million ratepayers and provides electricity and natural gas services to about half of Colorado. One of the issues with Excel's funding is the use of outside legal help, adding more costs to ratepayers' bills. Ratepayers also pay for rebates on solar installations and electric car charging ports.
